WHAT’S DIFFERENT?

The Mini VX™ and Mini VX™ LF were both created to bring that classic VX1000-inspired feel into a modern, action-camera-based setup. They share the same design DNA, camera compatibility, and skate-first intent — but they’re built for slightly different filming styles.

If you film skateboarding, you already know the look and feel of a VX-style camcorder. That top handle, the balance, the way it moves through a follow line — it’s a big part of skate filming culture.

This guide breaks down the differences so you can choose the right Mini VX for how you film skating.

Mini VX™ vs Mini VX™ LF — Key Differences

Mini VX™
• Smaller. Lighter. Quicker to grab
• Built for everyday filming
• Minimal setup

Mini VX™ LF
• Larger. More stable. Built to expand
• More control over your setup
• Closer-to-VX camcorder feel

What the Mini VX™ and Mini VX™ LF Have in Common

Before getting into the differences, it’s important to understand what stays the same.

Both the Mini VX™ and Mini VX™ LF are:

  • VX1000-inspired camera cages designed specifically for skate filming
  • Compatible with modern action cameras like GoPro, DJI Action, and Insta360
  • Built around the universal 2-prong GoPro mount for durability and simplicity
  • Designed, 3D-printed, finished, and assembled by hand by Mark Andrew under the 6oh5oh name
  • Focused on real-world skate filming — street spots, parks, DIY builds, tight fisheye lines, and long sessions

Neither rig is meant for vlogging, gimbals, or cinematic tripod setups. These are skateboarding tools first.

What Is the Mini VX™?

The Mini VX™ is the original, more compact version.

It’s designed for skate filmers who want:

  • The classic VX-style top-handle feel
  • A lighter, more nimble setup
  • A compact rig that’s easy to carry and quick to react with

The Mini VX™ shines during daily sessions, fast-moving street filming, and situations where you want the smallest possible VX-style setup without losing balance or control.

If you’re constantly hopping fences, chasing lines, or filming quick clips throughout the day, the Mini VX™ keeps things simple and responsive.

What Is the Mini VX™ LF?

The Mini VX™ LF is the long-format version of the Mini VX™.

LF stands for Long Format — a nod to larger tape-era camcorders and longer skate filming sessions.

Compared to the Mini VX™, the LF offers:

  • A longer overall body
  • More mass for a more planted feel
  • Improved balance during longer follow lines
  • A roomier internal slide-out compartment for accessories and cable routing
  • An additional rear 1/4-20 mounting point for wireless remote controls or expanded skate setups

The Mini VX™ LF keeps the same skate-first design but feels closer in hand to a traditional camcorder. It’s still compact and modular — just more robust.

Camera Compatibility

Both rigs are compatible with:

  • GoPro
  • DJI Action
  • Insta360
  • Other similarly sized action cameras

They also support fisheye setups and accessories commonly used in skate filming. Larger camera setups, such as GoPros with a Media Mod, require the optional Large Magnetic Front Hood.

Which One Should You Choose?

Choose the Mini VX™ if you:

  • Want the most compact VX-style rig
  • Prefer a lighter, quicker setup
  • Mostly film short sessions or fast street skating

Choose the Mini VX™ LF if you:

  • Want a more camcorder-like feel
  • Prefer added weight and balance
  • Film longer sessions or more involved follow lines

Both rigs are built the same way, by hand, with the same attention to detail. The right choice comes down to how you like your camera to feel while skating.

Built for Skate Filming, Not Everything Else

Neither the Mini VX™ nor the Mini VX™ LF tries to be a universal camera rig. They exist for one reason: to make filming skateboarding with modern cameras feel right.

If you grew up filming or watching skating shot on VX-style camcorders, both rigs bring that feeling back — just scaled to modern action cameras.
