FYI - The Remote Mount attachment is included with the Large Hood (Vertical Pass-Through) version available on the website.

If you want to recreate the configuration shown above, this is the exact setup I used. The Mini VX™ LF works great on its own. This just shows what’s possible if you want to expand it.

Camera & Monitoring

For running HDMI out and adding a front display.

Power

For powering the monitor from inside the LF rear compartment.

The rig only needs one power bank. I included two options that fit inside the compartment so you can choose between a smaller pack or longer runtime.

Dedicated Record Button

For mounting a remote to the rear screw point.

The Mini VX™ LF was designed to be the version you can push a little further if you want to.

The standard Mini VX™ works great on its own. Most people run it exactly that way.

But I’ve been experimenting with building the LF out into something a bit more self-contained and camcorder-like.

Not to make it “professional.” Just to see what’s possible.

External Monitor + HDMI Out

Once an action camera is mounted inside any Mini VX™ setup, the rear screen isn’t accessible. That’s just the nature of the design.

Using the GoPro Media Mod, I ran HDMI out to a 5-inch display mounted on the LF.

To make that cleaner, I modified the Large Hood to include a vertical cable passthrough. That allows:

  • HDMI from the Media Mod
  • Power from an internal battery bank to run cleanly through the front without pinching or interfering with the build.

The Large Hood (Vertical Pass-Through version) is available on the website if you want to run a setup like this.

FYI — You can still use your phone for monitoring like usual instead of the monitor.

The HDMI monitor is simply another option if you prefer a dedicated display mounted directly to the rig. It changes the feel in hand. More balanced. More camcorder-like.

Dedicated Record Button

The Mini VX™ LF includes an additional rear screw mount.

I designed a small Velcro-based attachment that screws into that rear mount and allows you to attach a GoPro remote.

That gives you a dedicated start/stop record button without touching the camera body.

No reaching around. Just a physical trigger.

The Remote Mount attachment is included with the Large Hood (Vertical Pass-Through) version available on the website.

Again, not required. Just another option if you want that more camcorder-style workflow.

Internal Power

With a battery bank mounted inside the rear compartment, you can:

  • Power the external monitor
  • Power the GoPro
  • Extend runtimes
  • Keep cables contained within the body

The internal compartment specs for the LF are:

L 4.75” (12 CM)
W 1.9” (5 CM)
H 2.3” (6 CM)

If you already have your own power bank that fits those dimensions, you can absolutely use it.

The Anker Nano linked below is simply one option that fits cleanly inside the LF rear compartment. Everything stays compact instead of turning into a cable mess.

Why This Matters

The standard Mini VX™ keeps things minimal.
The LF gives you room to experiment.

You can run it simple.
Or build it out.

That’s the point of the LF.

It’s not a professional cinema rig. But in terms of workflow and handling, it starts to feel a lot closer.

More control.

More flexibility.

More intention.

Still rooted in what the Mini VX™ is meant to be.
